This August, I decided to embrace a slower pace and discovered just how vital these moments of calm are for maintaining momentum.⁣

Instead of pushing myself to work nonstop, I allowed myself to take in the last month of this busy but awesome summer. 😎⁣
⁣
It turns out that stepping back and letting my mind and body unwind was exactly what my business needed. And if you’ve been feeling like you need to go, go, go to get ahead, I hope this serves as a reminder that recharging does the mind, body, AND business good. ⁣

So, with that being said, here’s a glimpse into a much-needed breather after the whirlwind of July👇⁣

🐶 Spent lots of quality downtime with the pups. This girl gang became pros at rest and relaxation.⁣
⁣
📈 Wrapped up a fantastic content marketing strategy project with Woodcock Transportation Group — excited to see where it takes them!⁣

🇮🇪 Welcomed one of my retreat partners home and got to catch up. If you missed it, last month we were in Ireland for the IRL in IRL Yoga & Wellness Retreat with @theyogachapple and it was even better than we planned. I’m excited for our next collaboration!⁣
⁣
👭🏻 I enjoyed every minute with my nieces before they dive back into school. And I want to hear your guesses: do you think I joined them on the trampolines? 👀😂⁣

🦋 Taking in the quiet moments are better when a butterfly joins you, don’t you think? Even better — the dogs didn’t notice and try to chase it away 😂⁣

This approach helps you stay in a flow state, making it easier to achieve higher levels of concentration and productivity. Imagine turning off your phone, closing irrelevant tabs, and focusing solely on the task at hand. It’s transformative for productivity.

Struggling to stay on top of your game can often feel like you’re fighting an uphill battle, but it doesn’t have to be that way ❗️

I don’t know about you, but for me, this summer has absolutely flown by! Here’s a slightly overdue snapshot/recap of how my July looked this year 👇

🇵🇹 First time travelling to Portugal, and spent time in a few cities, including Lisbon both working and relaxing.

🌊 One of my favourite spots on Lake Huron with some of my favourite people.

☀️ Nearly got everyone looking at the camera, so that’s a win on its own! Always enjoy spending time with my big family (there are at least 15 member missing in this photo, believe it or not!.

⚾️ Summer isn’t complete without taking in a Jay’s game, especially with great company and great seats!

😌 Reminder: taking time for relaxation IS productive, even when you combine work with travel. It’s a lesson I’ve had to learn along the way and continue to remind myself of.

🍀 Ireland has such a special place in my heart as I had the opportunity to live there many years ago. So, getting to plan and support this yoga and wellness retreat with @theyogachapple through my business was absolutely wonderful.

💻 I have such gratitude for being able to work remote and these views were certainly delivering...and the local treats were a bonus.

🧘‍♀️ When not drinking many pints of Guinness or glasses of wine, there was indeed actual yoga and wellness being practiced.

🗾 Sometimes NOT having an itinerary when you solo-travel is the best itinerary.

🐶 I got to spend a week with my nieces, which I always welcome..the dog do too!

Overall, it’s been a very busy summer, both personally and professionally. Here’s to taking August at a somewhat slower pace and being very intentional with my business and life.

This one mindset shift drastically improved how I run my business👇⁣

Rest and recharging is NOT being lazy or unproductive.⁣

So many of us were raised to believe that our level of worth comes from productivity levels, and the impact is huge! Couple that with my personal experience working in the ad industry for 20+ years where 14-hr days were the norm and celebrated, and well, it’s not hard to see why so many of us struggle with taking rest.

Taking breaks, relaxing, and recharging actually makes us MORE creative, focused, and productive. It’s about finding that sweet spot between hustle and relaxation, and understanding that balance is key. 🌱🌟⁣

When this mindset shift clicked for me, it felt like a weight lifted off of my shoulders. Suddenly, giving myself permission to unwind didn’t feel like a luxury — it felt necessary.⁣

As the old adage goes: you can’t pour from an empty cup. I mean, how is your business supposed to thrive if you aren’t thriving as an individual?⁣
⁣
And of course, it’s not an overnight transition into taking time to relax away from the business. I have to remind myself of the important of rest, so don’t feel guilty if this shift isn’t immediate for you.⁣

Being self-employed, it’s so easy to fall into routines like overtime being the standard, and saying yes to every project that comes your way. But truly, the best thing for your business is for you to make sure you’re not always in work mode 100% of the time.⁣
